Whilst at primary college still, some small children forged allegiances with others they knew will be moving with them. Being seen as part of a group during the first couple of days projects a far more confident and well-known persona to your new peers. Those without solid friendships were inherently even more vulnerable. For the minority who found the move challenging, friends from primary college were important particularly. Moving schools with close friends did not mean that children didn’t make new ones. Rather, having a stable foundation of friendships helped them make even more. They helped more youthful siblings understand their new environment, establish relationships with teachers, peers and old pupils, and deal with their academic work. Can brown fat help you lose weight? There’s a fat that makes you thin, researchers say. Brown fat, two fresh studies suggest, burn calories like a furnace. The research is raising expectations that it may be used to help people control their weight someday. Until about three years ago, it had been thought that only babies had brown extra fat because they don’t really shiver like adults, and use it to keep warm. Then, scientists found that adults have it too, in smaller amounts in the upper back, on the side of the neck, in the dip between the collarbone and the shoulder, and along the backbone. Now, in one new study published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation, six males were cooled down for three hours, but not enough to create them shiver, and they burned a supplementary 250 calories.
